Dr. Russ Eberhart Wins International Pioneering Technology Award

Phoenix Data Corporation's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Russell C. Eberhart, this month was awarded the 2012 Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award from the Computational Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE is the world's largest professional association (400,000 members worldwide) dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, and the award is the organization's highest honor in the field of evolutionary computation.

Dr. Eberhart's collaborative work with James Kennedy in the early 1990s developed an evolutionary computation technique called Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in 1995, which is now being used in more than 30 countries. Particle Swarm Optimization computes solutions for nonlinear problems in rapidly-changing environments for which traditional approaches are difficult, if not impossible, to apply. Patterned after the behavior of self-organized systems such as ant colonies and schools of fish, PSO rapidly calculates multiple optimal solutions up to thousands of times faster than previous methods.

Dr. Eberhart will be traveling to Brisbane, Australia, to receive his award.
